Max Landis wrote the screenplays for Chronicle (2012), American Ultra, and Victor Frankenstein (both 2015), created the BBC America series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and produced Syfy's Channel Zero, work that twice landed him on Forbes' "30 Under 30" list for entertainment. In 2017 and again in 2019, multiple women publicly accused Landis of sexual and emotional abuse, allegations detailed in a 2019 Daily Beast investigation that led his management company to drop him and cost him industry work. In a 2021 essay, Landis wrote that some of what had been said about him was true while disputing other claims.
