Max Steiner

Austrian-born American music composer and conductor

1888 – 1971aged 83

A composer often called "the father of film music" for establishing, in the earliest years of sound cinema, the practice of scoring a film's emotional beats rather than simply providing background music. Across more than 300 scores for RKO and Warner Bros. he composed the music for King Kong, Casablanca, and Gone with the Wind, and was nominated for 24 Academy Awards, winning three, for The Informer, Now, Voyager, and Since You Went Away.
