As a member of 3rd Bass in the late 1980s, he was one of hip-hop's early white performers to earn credibility among Black artists and audiences alike. He is better remembered for discovering Nas in 1992, introducing him to Columbia Records, and executive producing Illmatic, the 1994 debut widely regarded as one of hip-hop's greatest albums.
