Melvyn Douglas

American actor

1901 – 1981aged 80

An actor whose career ran more than fifty years and reinvented itself completely along the way, from the debonair leading man who played opposite Greta Garbo in Ninotchka (1939) to the craggy, weathered father figures of his later decades. He won two Best Supporting Actor Oscars, for Hud (1963) and Being There (1979), plus a Tony and an Emmy, making him one of a small handful of performers to complete acting's Triple Crown.
