Michael Gore

Composed the score and title song for Fame (1980), winning two Academy Awards in a single night — Best Original Score and, with lyricist Dean Pitchford, Best Original Song for "Fame" itself, performed by Irene Cara. He went on to write the instrumental theme for Terms of Endearment (1983), which became a minor chart hit in its own right, and later collaborated on the stage musical Carrie, whose disastrous 1988 Broadway run was redeemed by a well-received 2012 revival. He is the younger brother of singer Lesley Gore.
