Mitch Leigh
American composer
1928 – 2014aged 86
Leigh composed the score for Man of La Mancha, whose "The Impossible Dream" became a standard far beyond the show — the 1965 musical ran 2,328 performances on Broadway and won him a Tony. He built a separate, prolific career in advertising, founding Music Makers in 1957 and writing jingles that became part of the era's soundtrack, including the Polaroid Swinger campaign and a Benson & Hedges theme that reached the pop Top 40.
