Norman Gimbel

Wrote English-language lyrics that turned Brazilian bossa nova into American radio staples — The Girl from Ipanema and Summer Samba among them — and co-wrote Killing Me Softly with His Song. His film themes earned five Academy Award or Golden Globe nominations, including a win for Norma Rae's It Goes Like It Goes, and he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
