Paul Krassner

American writer and satirist

1932 – 2019aged 87

Paul Krassner founded The Realist in 1958, a freethought magazine that became a proving ground for satire aimed at Cold War hypocrisy and mainstream taboos, and he carried that irreverence into activism as a founding member of the Yippies, a name he is credited with coining. He ran with Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and became one of the counterculture's sharpest satirical voices through the 1960s.
