Paul Newman trained at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg after a year at Yale School of Drama, then spent decades collecting Oscar nominations — for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Absence of Malice, The Verdict — before finally winning Best Actor in 1986 for The Color of Money, reprising the pool hustler he'd first played in The Hustler twenty-five years earlier. He also raced cars competitively, a second career he pursued seriously alongside acting.
