Paul Stewart

American actor

1908 – 1986aged 77

Paul Stewart, born Paul Sternberg, was part of Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre players and helped get Welles his start in radio, later serving as associate producer on the 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast that famously panicked listeners who mistook it for a real Martian invasion. He carried that association into Citizen Kane, playing Kane's butler Raymond, before building a five-decade career as a character actor across 50 films and thousands of radio and television productions, typically cast as the sinister or cynical man in the room.
