Peter Hyams

A director, screenwriter, and cinematographer behind a run of genre films that mixed thriller mechanics with science fiction and skepticism of institutions, including Capricorn One (1977), Outland (1981), and 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984), his sequel to Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. He later directed the comic-book adaptation Timecop and the Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle Sudden Death, working steadily across four decades of studio filmmaking.
