Phoebe Snow

American singer, songwriter and guitarist

1950 – 2011aged 60

A singer whose four-octave range and bluesy growl the New York Times called "grounded" and "sweeping" carried her 1974 single "Poetry Man" into the charts and made her debut album a critical breakthrough. She toured and recorded for decades afterward, finding a second commercial life in Australia with five top-100 albums, and lent guest vocals to Paul Simon's "Gone at Last." In 1995 she returned to her roots with a gospel record made alongside the Sisters of Glory.
