Raymond Scott

American composer, bandleader, pianist

1908 – 1994aged 85

Raymond Scott, born Harry Warnow, wrote and led the Raymond Scott Quintette, whose antic, tightly engineered instrumentals became better known decades later than they were on release: Carl Stalling adapted more than 120 of Scott's compositions for Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons, embedding his music in the sound of American animation for generations who never heard his name. He was also an early pioneer of electronic music and an inventor of audio equipment, though the only piece he composed specifically for animation was a set of 20-second bread commercials.
