Reinhard Selten

German economist

1930 – 2016aged 85

Reinhard Selten helped found experimental economics as a discipline, testing how real people actually make decisions rather than assuming the perfect rationality classical economic models required — work that became central to his concept of bounded rationality. He shared the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with John Harsanyi and John Nash for developing game theory's equilibrium concepts. He was also a lifelong Esperantist.
