Reinhold Schünzel

actor and director

1886 – 1954aged 68

Reinhold Schünzel was a German actor and director working steadily in both Berlin and Hollywood, born to a German father and Jewish mother in one of Hamburg's poorest districts. The Nazi regime, remarkably, let him keep directing films for several years after 1933 despite his ancestry, an anomaly he did not test indefinitely — he left Germany for good in 1937 and continued his career in the United States.
