An economics professor emeritus at UMass Amherst, Wolff has spent his career building a Marxian alternative to mainstream economic teaching, co-founding the journal Rethinking Marxism in 1988 and, decades later, the media outlet Democracy at Work, whose weekly program Economic Update reaches audiences across YouTube, public-access television, and Pacifica radio stations. The New York Times Magazine has called him America's most prominent Marxist economist.
