Richard Hermer, Baron Hermer
British barrister
b. c. 1968Living
Richard Hermer built his career at the bar representing clients other lawyers would avoid — a former Guantánamo Bay detainee, a woman seeking to return from ISIS-held territory, terrorism suspects fighting deportation — arguing that due process applies even to the unpopular. He took silk in 2009, chaired Matrix Chambers, and in 2024 was appointed Attorney General for England and Wales, the government's chief legal officer, a post he held until 2026.
