Richard Rogers

British architect

1933 – 2021aged 88

A pioneer of high-tech architecture, who treated a building's structure and services — pipes, escalators, steel — as its design rather than something to conceal behind a facade. His Pompidou Centre in Paris, built with its infrastructure exposed on the exterior, became his signature work, alongside the Lloyd's building and Millennium Dome in London, the Senedd in Cardiff, and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2007 and the RIBA Gold Medal over a decades-long career leading his firm, now known as RSHP.
