Moranis built a run of beloved comic performances in the 1980s — Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, whose title role he originated. After his wife died in 1991, he stepped back from acting almost entirely to raise their two children himself, a choice he kept to for decades rather than trading on his fame. He has since returned occasionally, voicing a role in Disney's Brother Bear and signing on to reprise Dark Helmet in a new Spaceballs film.
