Sam M. Lewis
American singer and lyricist
1885 – 1959aged 74
Sam M. Lewis put words to some of the standards of early twentieth-century American song, writing 'Dinah,' 'Has Anybody Seen My Gal?' and 'I'm Sitting on Top of the World' with a rotating cast of composers, most often Joe Young. A charter member of ASCAP in 1914, he kept his lyrics in circulation for a century afterward — his songs later turned up in Big Fish and The Pelican Brief.
