Sandra Bernhard built a stand-up career in the late 1970s around pointed critiques of celebrity and political culture, then carried that same edge into acting, playing Masha opposite Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy and Nancy Bartlett on Roseanne for its final four seasons. More recently she has appeared on Pose and as a nurse on Severance, and Comedy Central ranked her among the 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time.
