Sanford Meisner

American actor and acting teacher

1905 – 1997aged 91

An actor who broke with the dominant Method school to develop his own approach to training actors, built on what he called "the reality of doing" rather than mining an actor's own memories for emotion. The Meisner technique, taught for decades at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, became one of the most widely used actor-training systems in American theater and film.
