A stand-up comedian who built a career on saying the unsayable in a deadpan, disarming voice, using satire to needle racism, sexism, and religious taboo rather than steer around them. She wrote for and appeared on Saturday Night Live before creating and starring in The Sarah Silverman Program, earning an Emmy nomination for the role. Her films include School of Rock and Battle of the Sexes, and she voiced Vanellope von Schweetz across the Wreck-It Ralph films. She turned her own life, including a childhood bedwetting condition, into the bestselling memoir The Bedwetter, later adapting it into an off-Broadway musical.
