Sheila Kuehl left a career as a child and teen actress to become the first openly gay person elected to the California state legislature, later serving as the Assembly's first female speaker pro tem. She went on to represent Los Angeles County's 3rd District on the Board of Supervisors from 2014 to 2022, closing out a public career that moved from soundstage to statehouse.
