Sid Caesar starred in Your Show of Shows, a 90-minute live weekly sketch program watched by 60 million people, and its successor Caesar's Hour, shows that shaped television comedy for a generation and employed a writers' room that included Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart, and Woody Allen early in their careers. He later appeared in films including Grease and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, working in a physical, sketch-based comic style distinct from the stand-up norm of the era.
