Sidney Bernstein, Baron Bernstein

Sidney Bernstein founded Granada Television in Manchester in 1954, betting that Britain's broadcasting future needn't run entirely through London, and built it into one of the original four ITA franchises. The British Film Institute has called him the dominant influence on the growth of commercial television in Britain; he was given a life peerage in 1969 for his services to the medium.
