Sophie Hannah built two literary careers in parallel: a poetry practice recognized by the Poetry Book Society as part of its Next Generation cohort in 2004, and a run of psychological crime novels, starting with Little Face in 2006, that became Sunday Times bestsellers. The Agatha Christie estate later selected her to continue the Hercule Poirot novels, and her Poirot title Hercule Poirot's Silent Night reached number one on Amazon UK; she won the 2023 Crime Writers' Association Dagger in the Library.
