Sophie Tucker
Russian-born American singer, comedian
1886 – 1966aged 80
Built a career on brassy, sexually frank songs at a time when women performers were expected to stay demure, and became one of America's most popular entertainers for half a century under the self-given nickname "the Last of the Red-Hot Mamas." She worked in vaudeville, film, and radio from the 1900s through the 1960s, outlasting most of her contemporaries by continually updating her act rather than trading on nostalgia.
