Susanna Hoffs co-founded the Bangles in 1981 and became the face of the group as its most frequent lead vocalist, singing on the double-platinum Different Light and co-writing the band's number-one hit "Eternal Flame." After the group split in 1989 and later reformed, she also built a solo career and formed the covers project Under the Covers with Matthew Sweet.
