A character actor best known for two very different roles: Jame Gumb, the serial killer "Buffalo Bill," in The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and the steadier presence of Captain Leland Stottlemeyer across eight seasons of Monk (2002–2009). His range beyond those two parts runs from Heat and The Fast and the Furious to Shutter Island and American Gangster, a career built on reliably strong supporting work rather than a single signature turn.
