An actor, director, and playwright who has moved comfortably between studio films and difficult, self-authored material. He's best known on screen as Delmar in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and as Wade Tillman in HBO's Watchmen, but his own directing credits are the more striking body of work: The Grey Zone (2001), a Holocaust drama adapted from his own play about the Auschwitz Sonderkommando, and O (2001), a modern-day Othello, both drew Sundance and Independent Spirit recognition.
