William Finn won two Tony Awards for Falsettos (1992) — Best Original Score, and Best Book shared with James Lapine — and later drew on his own medical crisis for the semi-autobiographical A New Brain (1998). His work returned often to his life as a gay, Jewish man, and in 2024, a year before his death, he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
