A dancer, choreographer and filmmaker whose experimental, minimalist approach to movement helped redefine what postmodern dance could look like, stripping away theatrical spectacle in favor of ordinary gesture and task-like action. She carried that same reductive sensibility into her later work as an experimental filmmaker.
