Abel Wolman
American scientist
1892 – 1989aged 96
Abel Wolman worked out, with collaborator Linn Enslow, the chlorination method that made Baltimore's municipal water supply safe to drink — a technique that went on to protect drinking water for cities around the world. His decades of teaching and research in sanitary engineering helped establish public water treatment as a serious scientific discipline rather than a matter of guesswork.
