Andrew Weil
US physician and writer; alternative medicine advocate
b. 1942age 84Living
A physician who built "integrative medicine" into a recognized field, founding the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine in 1994 to combine conventional care with nutrition, stress reduction and complementary therapies rather than treating them as opposites. His bestselling books, including Spontaneous Healing and Eight Weeks to Optimum Health, brought the approach to a wide public audience, though critics have challenged some of his supplement endorsements and the FDA warned him in 2009 over unverified H1N1 treatment claims.
