Gar Alperovitz has spent his career arguing for an economy built around worker- and community-owned enterprises rather than either state control or conventional corporate capitalism, work he pursued from posts including the University of Maryland and fellowships at Cambridge and Harvard. He served in the US House, Senate, and State Department earlier in his career, and co-founded the Democracy Collaborative to put his ideas about a 'next system' of ownership into practice.
