Herbert C. Brown
American chemist
1912 – 2004aged 92
Herbert C. Brown developed the use of organoboron compounds as tools in organic synthesis, opening up new, more precise ways for chemists to build complex molecules — a body of work that won him the 1979 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Organoborane chemistry, largely his creation, remains a standard part of the synthetic chemist's toolkit today.
