An archaeologist whose excavations at Megiddo and development of the "Low Chronology" for dating Iron Age remains upended assumptions about biblical history, arguing that the Kingdom of Israel in the north was larger and more prosperous than the Kingdom of Judah at a time the Bible describes them as a single united monarchy under David and Solomon. He won the Dan David Prize in 2005 and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
