Jacob Bekenstein

Mexican-Israeli physicist

1947 – 2015aged 68

A Mexican-born American-Israeli theoretical physicist who laid the foundation of black hole thermodynamics, showing that black holes carry entropy proportional to the area of their event horizon rather than their volume — a result that reshaped how physicists understand the relationship between gravity and information. The idea, initially resisted, later became central to Stephen Hawking's work on black hole radiation.
