Manuel Blum
venezuelan computer scientist
b. 1938age 88Living
Blum won the 1995 Turing Award, computer science's highest honor, for laying foundations of computational complexity theory and showing how to apply it to cryptography and to program checking — the idea that a computer program's output can be verified as correct without re-deriving the whole computation. That work underlies later techniques for building trust into systems that must run without a human checking every step.
