Mário Schenberg
Brazilian physicist
1914 – 1990aged 76
A Brazilian theoretical physicist whose 1942 paper with Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar established the Schönberg-Chandrasekhar limit, the maximum mass a star's core can sustain after exhausting its hydrogen before collapsing further — a fixture of stellar evolution theory since. He also worked with George Gamow on the neutrino-cooling mechanism nicknamed the Urca process, and later collaborated with David Bohm on geometric algebras in quantum field theory, while building a parallel career as an art critic.
