Seymour Benzer
American geneticist
1921 – 2007aged 86
A physicist turned molecular biologist who helped found behavioral genetics, showing that individual genes could be mapped to specific behaviors in fruit flies at a time when the idea was radical. His research programs at Purdue and Caltech trained a generation of geneticists and opened the study of how genes shape behavior rather than just physical traits.
